Bollards, damaged by fire

Vandalism in and around L.F.E. Submitted on Aug 02, 07

How disappointing to see that some of the youths in our midst appear to be following the national trend of having no respect for either people or property.

Besides the totally senseless vandalism to various parts of the park and its surroundings, there is a more worrying aspect of intimidation that appears to go hand in hand with these idiots.

Very recently, one resident was subjected to youths throwing things at the windows and then violently kicking at the front door. Apparently for no other reason than for something to do!

The very frightened lady had to telephone her husband to return from a social function to be with her. Unfortunately despite several phone calls to the police they did not attend until the next day. Did the yobs ever stop to think that this very same disturbing incident could happen to their mum or gran's house? I don't think so.

I have also heard of intimidation to work people. Whilst trying to remove one of the damaged benches from the park for repair, the yobs then demanded to know what was happening to their ****ing bench and what authority he had! It seems that this particular area is fast becoming a protected area or should I say turf or manor!

Interestingly the Parish Council still wants to provide more play facilities but I fear will have to think again as this would only give greater delight to the vandals in having brand new and challenging equipment to destroy.

In the end the local children will be denied having some decent play facilities What is more worrying is the fact that in Narborough where some extremely good new play items have been installed (I assume at some considerable cost) someone overnight is loosening the bolts on items which could lead to a very serious injury or even worse. Absolutely mindless.

Despite these recent incidents, residents of LFE must be quite happy. In order for residents to have their say on ANY issues, surgeries have been held locally with our local P.C Ijaz Ahmed and a senior Police official in attendance. On the first occasion one person turned up whilst on the second twelve. Is everyone happy with policing in our area?

There are also 'pockets' of youths gathering around several shops in the locality and St Andrews Church . In some cases shop keepers have been threatened or had vehicles damaged by youths after they were refused to be served. These groups can be very intimidating to the more elderly people. Although they could well be gathered as a social group (am I being naive?) or is it because they feel safer in numbers?

If people feel unhappy about reporting matters to either the Police or the Parish Council, how about considering joining a neighbourhood watch scheme ? A further article giving details of this will be shown soon.

A view from the LFE Parish Council

Over the Bank Holiday weekend, large groups of young people (some as young as 13/14 years) were once again out and about in the parish carrying out acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in our park areas. After drinking copious amounts of alcohol the young people proceeded to smash bottles on the play area on Kings Walk Open Space making it impossible for those in the community who wanted to use the play area properly to do so. Seating on the park was damaged and fires started in the Spinney.

In the Forest East Park large groups gathered there carrying out anti-social behaviour in the car park and also in the small field where they too drank copious amounts of alcohol and lit barbecues. This behaviour is unacceptable and it is costing you the council tax payer money to make good the damage caused by these mindless individuals.

Do you know where you son/daughter is in the evening?

Could they be one of this large group who seem intent on acting in an anti-social way and causing annoyance to others within their community?

The Parish Council has in the last month spent a considerable amount of your money, the council tax payer, on repairs to play equipment/play surfaces/new seats and generally cleaning up the mess left by these young people.

Are you prepared to let your son/daughter continue with this type of behaviour?
