SAMWORTHS FACTORY TO BE EXTENDED? Submitted by: Gerry 5 Jul 07

Samworths on the Ratby Lane have submitted a planning application to Blaby District Council for an additional industrial unit to be built on the site for food processing with associated offices and parking.

Full details of the application are now available on the Blaby District Councils web site. The new factory will be for the production of desserts.

Local residents will no doubt be wary of this in view of the fact the factory was originally set up as a salad works and then progressed on to the production of ready made cooked foods with resultant extremely strong smells of onion, garlic wine etc. In fact the problem is still on going as the Company has yet to complete the installation of new ovens in a further effort to eliminate the smells. (See previous articles on the problem.)

The danger is that permission could be granted for this new process only for it to change at a later date!

This matter will of course be discussed by our Parish Council so if you have views on this or any other issues please attend the Parish meetings (see calendar for dates)

If you wish to check the details on-line or comment to Blaby, click on the planning application No: 07/0559/1/PX

Please note: occassionally the Blaby D.C. shows an error page when the site is off line for maintenance usually at weekends - if you see the error message try later
